There’s More Than One Way To Gain A Little Fitness These Days

Today, many of us would say we hardly have a minute in our day to even think about physical fitness but that isn’t exactly true. The fact is one can get up, get moving and get a little fitness in the home very easily and with just a few minutes of activity spread throughout the day. For a fact, just those few minutes can go a long way towards increasing overall physical fitness.

Consider the average black sport watch dangling from the wrist of many people nowadays. For sure, the thing might look like it belongs on the wrist of some special operations Rambo-type Navy SEAL but chances are good that most of us will never use even a quarter of its potential. With that in mind, set it up for a couple of small periods of time to remind one to get up and walk around, even.

And this is the most underappreciated aspect of physical activity, it seems; because we don’t really need to do a lot of it to gain some fitness. This is important to realize because the chances are high that most of us probably don’t have all that much time to do things like go to the gym and stand around with other sweaty, bulging-muscled guys, now do we? Gardening is more our style.

So go out into the garage and look at those lawn garden tools that’ve been gathering dust over in the corner. Clean them up a little and get out there and start digging. And while people in this country aren’t as over the moon for gardening as those in Great Britain, there’s still a lot to be said for the relaxation and comfort that can be gained from planting a few flowers or vegetables.

If that isn’t exactly stimulating the excitement centers of the brain, think back to when playing air guitar was not only fun but also a way to build up a little bit of a sweat. Now, think about playing an actual guitar; maybe something like an Epiphone electric guitar. Standing in front of the mirror, windmilling the arms like Pete Townsend of the Who used to do can be a lot of fun.

It’s pretty much guaranteed that all of that pseudo-rockstar jumping around and strumming of the strings will build up some sweat and burn a few calories while doing so. Remember all those rock concerts where the lead guitarist was covered in sweat by the end and imagine that same thing happening to you. You might not become a Jimi Hendrix or a Pete Townsend of the Who, but you can still sweat, right?

The bottom line about fitness is that it doesn’t take an awful lot of activity to gain even a little bit of it. It’s far more important that some activity of any sort be done rather than no activity or activity that involves just sitting in front of a big screen TV and munching on potato chips all day. That can hardly be healthy for you, correct?
