Soccer Coaching Drills
Imagine a scenario where 50% of the soccer coaching drills should adopt development of trapping skills as their focal point. You won’t take it seriously. But interestingly, researchers say that trapping, besides dribbling and passing is mainly responsible for consistently winning matches.
Trapping is the skill which enables a player to catch the ball and keep it close to himself. Such soccer exercises allow players to use thighs, feet and chest in doing so.
It’s vital for your players to master the skill of trapping the ball. If the players don’t know how to trap the ball, the primary skill, they would fail to have control over the game. Trapping skills of the players can be enhanced by following the ways mentioned here.
Make use of your feet: Make your players learn the primary skill of involving their feet in holding the ball. In kids soccer drills, the kids must be particularly trained on using the inside of their foot. It is emphasized for the reason that inside area of the foot is big enough to catch hold of the ball.
If the players are advanced and mature, teach them to use the instep or top of the foot as well as the whole foot in trapping the ball during the soccer coaching drills. When the ball is hopping too much, tell them to employ the most favorable trick of using their shin or ankle.
Thigh Movement: Using your thigh to control rapid and bouncy ball is an excellent approach. Players should be taught to face of the ball, use one thigh to catch the ball and the other to stand on the ground. Practice the skill of retaining the ball with you after it meets your thigh by learning to bring down your knee so the will plunge and settle close to you.
This exercise of dropping the knee needs to be done repetitively so that the players master the art of first stopping the ball using the knee and then drop it so that the ball trickles down the feet.
Use the Chest: Similar to the role of a thigh, the chest also plays an important part in trapping the ball that is high up in the air. Teach your players to tackle the ball using their chest by getting in front of the ball and take their chest out. This will have the effect of breaking the ball’s speed and tumbling it down immediately.
Nevertheless, soccer training drills should be careful not to expose young players too much to this skill. While using their chest to tackle the ball, it is common for them to use their hands. This can prove to be dangerous as the kids might develop a habit of using their hands while tackling the ball.
